Photovoltaic Manufacturer Fluoride Removal Project – 200 m³/h Defluorination System Delivering F < 1 ppm
August 26, 2026
Project Overview
Our client is a leading photovoltaic (PV) manufacturer specializing in solar cell and module production. During the manufacturing process — particularly in wafer texturing, etching and cleaning — the plant generates a continuous stream of fluoride-containing wastewater that requires reliable, high-performance treatment before discharge.
To meet tightening environmental regulations and support the company’s sustainable production goals, our team designed, supplied and commissioned a complete fluoride removal (defluorination) wastewater treatment system with a processing capacity of 200 m³/h.
Customer Challenge
The client faced three key challenges:
- High fluoride load: The raw wastewater contained fluoride at approximately 8 ppm (mg/L), exceeding local discharge limits by a wide margin.
- Strict discharge requirement: The treated effluent had to achieve a fluoride concentration below 1 ppm (F < 1 ppm) — a stringent target that demands precise chemical dosing and stable process control.
- Continuous operation: As a 24/7 production facility, the wastewater treatment plant had to run reliably with minimal downtime and low operator intervention.
Our Solution
We delivered a turnkey defluorination system built around a proven chemical precipitation and coagulation-flocculation process, followed by efficient solid-liquid separation:
- Automatic chemical dosing: Precise dosing of calcium-based precipitants and coagulants, controlled by inline pH and fluoride analyzers.
- Reaction & flocculation: Multi-stage mixing and flocculation tanks optimized for complete precipitate formation and floc growth.
- Clarification & filtration: High-efficiency lamella clarifier and final filtration to guarantee consistent effluent quality.
- Sludge handling: Automatic sludge dewatering to minimize waste volume and simplify disposal.
- Intelligent control: Fully automated PLC system with remote monitoring, alarm management and data logging.
Key Project Parameters
| Parameter | Value |
|---|---|
| Industry | Photovoltaic (solar cell manufacturing) |
| Treatment capacity | 200 m³/h |
| Influent fluoride concentration | 8 ppm (mg/L) |
| Effluent requirement | F < 1 ppm (mg/L) |
| Treatment process | Chemical precipitation + coagulation-flocculation + clarification |

Results & Benefits
Since commissioning, the system has delivered outstanding performance:
- Compliant effluent: Fluoride concentration consistently below 1 ppm, fully meeting the discharge requirement.
- Stable operation: Continuous 24/7 performance with automatic control, greatly reducing manual workload.
- Cost efficiency: Optimized chemical dosing lowers operating costs while maintaining treatment quality.
- Environmental compliance: The client passed all regulatory inspections with confidence, reinforcing its green manufacturing image.
