001×7 is a strong acidic cation exchange resin with sulfonic acid functional groups (−SO₃H). It can dissociate hydrogen ions (H⁺) in water solutions.
The resin is composed of a high-molecular backbone and ion exchange groups. The high-molecular backbone supports the resin structure and sulfonic acid groups act as active sites responsible for the ion exchange process.
When the resin contacts with a solution containing cations, the hydrogen ions on the resin undergo exchange with the cations in the solution. This exchange is based on differences in charge balance and ionic affinity.
For example, the resin can remove hard water components of calcium ions (Ca²⁺) and magnesium ions (Mg²⁺) from water, while releasing hydrogen ions to achieve water softening.
