Product Description
Product Introduction
ACD-800A is a macroporous chelating resin designed for fixed-bed and continuous ion exchange columns in gallium plants. The styrene-acrylonitrile copolymer matrix carries gallium-selective chelating groups, giving 15 g/L minimum working capacity with hydraulic behaviour suited to tall beds: 0.3-0.6mm beads, 0.72-0.82 g/ml shipping weight and sphericity of 90% or more after attrition.
Technical Indexes
| Appearance | White to pale yellow opaque spherical beads |
| Structure | Styrene-Acrylonitrile Copolymer |
| Particle Size Range (mm) | ≥ 95% 0.3-0.6 |
| Shipping Weight (g/ml) | 0.72-0.82 |
| Moisture Content (%) | 45-55 |
| Sphericity after Attrition (%) | ≥ 90 |
| Gallium Adsorption Capacity (g/L) | ≥ 15 |
Column Operation Guidance
- Backwash and classify the bed before the first adsorption cycle; rinse with 1-2BV pure water.
- Keep feed suspended solids at or below 1 ppm to protect the chelating groups.
- Acid elution at 1-1.5BV/h with 4-6BV 5% H2SO4; water and caustic at 2BV/h.
- Rinse with 2-4BV pure water between acid elution and NaOH activation.
Regeneration Protocol
Gallium is stripped with dilute sulphuric acid and the resin is then activated with 5.0 mol/L NaOH. The two-stage acid/caustic cycle restores the chelating groups without swelling damage, so capacity returns to the 15 g/L design level cycle after cycle.
- Regenerants: 4-6BV 5% H2SO4 and 2BV 5.0 mol/L NaOH
- Concentration: 5% H2SO4, 5.0 mol/L NaOH
- Flow rates: 1-1.5BV/h (H2SO4), 2BV/h (water & NaOH)
- Rinse resin with 2-4BV pure water after acid elution prior to NaOH activation
Key Applications
- Fixed-bed gallium enrichment in Bayer-process alumina refineries.
- Hydrometallurgical gallium recovery and purification columns.
- Retrofit of existing solvent extraction trains with chelating resin polishing.
Storage
Storage temperature shall not exceed 90°C; store above 0°C in wet state. Keep the package sealed to prevent water loss. If the resin dries out, soak it in ethanol for about 2 hours, wash with clean water, then repackage or use. Prevent the beads from freezing and cracking in winter; if frozen, melt slowly at room temperature.
